Biography :
Virajini Lalithya de Silva, fondly known to us as Nirosha Virajini started her singing career at teenage years singing Bollywood and Tamil songs at live stage, Radio and TV programs.
It was when she was introduced to the well known music composer, Austin Munasinghe that her real
music career as a solo singer was started. This solid foundation, together with guidance from the school and from her parents, paved the way into her rise to the local music scene in 1991. And ever since, there has been no looking back for Nirosha. And as they say… the rest is history.
Nirosha’s natural gift of singing was further honed with her qualifications as Diploma holder in Karnatic Music from South India and the prestigious ‘Sangit Visharad (Part II)’ degree from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow, India.
Being in the local music industry for the last 20 years, Nirosha Virajini has mesmerized the music lovers in and out of Sri Lanka with a catalogue of nearly 1000 effeminately voiced songs. Apart from singing in Sinhalese, she has also sung in six other languages such as Tamil, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Japanese and Divehi (language of Maldives), yet another fact that she’s a step above many contemporary vocalists of her time.
Nirosha was the recipient of many an awards for her works throughout the years. Among recognitions for her contribution to music are;
• SLIM Nleison Peoples award for Peoples female singer of the Year 2013
• 2 Presidential awards for the Best Female Singer of the Year [2000 & 2001]
• Sarasaviya award for the Best Female Singer of the Year [2001]
• Sumathi award for the Best Female Teledrama Singer of the Year [2002]
• Raigam award for the Best Female Teledrama Singer of the Year [2010]
This is in addition to the numerous other awards she has received from Media institutes, broadcast companies in appreciation of her tremendous work.
She was a member of the original panel of judges in Sri Lanka’s first reality talent search ‘Sirasa Super Star’ of Sirasa TV and now judges Derana Dream Star for Derana TV.
She has produced the five albums mentioned below; all of them have left a lasting nostalgia among her fans and music lovers

20 years of her career in music has given Nirosha immense experience in various facet of the industry. Having worked with many music composers, lyricists, producers, media personalities, event organizers and almost every aspect of the entertainment value chain, she possesses a wealth of knowledge which distinguishes herself from other present-day artistes.
Nirosha is a pioneering resource person in the local reality TV arena. She was a part of the original musical reality show in Sri Lankan television and is now an adjudicator for a top rated talent search program. As the only Sri Lankan female artist to adjudicate reality TV since it’s introduction to the island, she has guided tens of hundreds of budding musicians into potential stardom.
With all this exposure and understanding of the music scene, Nirosha knows only too well how difficult it is for a beginner to make inroads in the entertainment industry and sustain. Lack of professional education in performing arts, entertainment has caused frustration for Sri Lanka’s youth for years.
With this in mind, it was her dream to establish a facility where enthusiastic Sri Lankans can gain knowledge in the entire value chain involved in music sphere. She was determined to strictly refrain from being the traditional Music Teacher. By establishing the Beats of Heart Academy, Nirosha’s motive is to pass her two decades of knowledge on to the hands of interested individuals with a touch of sophistication and modernism.
